Wavebid: Offline Mode

Wavebid Offline functions by using a Server/Client model without needing a constant internet connection. The software package itself is installed on a server computer that clients connect to through a local area network using Google Chrome. The only intended purpose of Offline Mode is to clerk in areas without an internet connection using Microsoft Windows. Offline Mode cannot be used with Mac. This article walks through the installation process, and the processes for uploading an auction and catalog, and downloading a catalog.

Requirements

The process of installation and configuration might take from 15 minutes to a few hours. Please set aside enough time to perform these steps with enough time for testing the installation.

Please remember if this is your first sale it is currently not possible to use Wavebid Offline for it.

Please read this guide very thoroughly.

The amount of support we are able to provide is very limited. Please make sure that you and your team understand the limitations, and that you have a backup plan in place.

We strongly recommend that Wavebid be used through an internet connection made with a hotspot before Wavebid Offline is considered as an option to conduct the sale. Clerking an auction requires very little bandwidth and usage of a hotspot can suffice to get this done.

If you have any issues understanding any part of this guide, please contact support@wavebid.com

Networking

The first installation of Offline requires the Server computer to have a working internet connection as it will need to sync with the online databases to obtain data about your company. If the computer is offline; the installation will be corrupted.

You will need to setup a local network that will connect your computers together. The easiest way is to use a router that will create the network for you, then connect the all of the computers to it using Wifi or Ethernet cabling.

You can setup and configure this network before heading to the sale site, testing for any potential issues.

Hardware

While Wavebid Offline will execute on most computers acting as the Server, it does have hardware requirements to ensure proper functionality:

  • CPU: Intel i7 (or AMD equivalent) running above 2GHz
  • RAM: 8 GB
  • Storage: Hard disk drive with 165MB of storage for the installer file, 500MB once it has been installed.

The are the requirements for our software. Please keep in mind the requirements of the operating system. This is what we recommend:

  • CPU: Intel i7 (or AMD equivalent) running above 3GHz
  • RAM: 16 GB or more if possible
  • Storage: Solid state drive with 165MB of storage for the installer file, 500MB once it has been installed.

Software

  • Operating System

Wavebid can function with most versions of Windows (Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 10), but please make sure that Windows is updated before you head to the worksite and that it does not have any software or configuration issues.

  • Java

Wavebid Offline requires Java technology to work. Before starting installation of Java on a Windows system please uninstall any old versions of it by going to the Control Panel and then Programs and FeaturesYou can then download the latest version of Java 8 and install it. This should be done before the installation of Wavebid Offline is performed.

To stop Wavebid Offline from running, you may click on the power icon located on the top right of the screen. The Server software will then stop. To run the software again you can run Wavebid Offline from your desktop or Start Menu. Unless you are shutting the Server computer off, please leave it running.

To prevent any issues during you sale, please do not use the Server computer for anything other than running Wavebid Offline as it might interfere with the proper operation of the software.

Please make sure to have an alternate method of Clerking your sale if need be, such as a spreadsheet or just pen and paper. Although we do try our best to have this software function as expected, we cannot guarantee the integrity of the data before it has been imported into our servers.
