Offline Mode

This article walks through the installation process, and the processes for uploading an auction and catalog, and downloading a catalog.

This article contains the following sections:

What is Offline Mode?

Wavebid Offline functions by using a Server/Client model without needing a constant internet connection. The software package itself is installed on a server computer that clients connect to through a local area network using Google Chrome. The only intended purpose of Offline Mode is to clerk in areas without an internet connection using Microsoft Windows. Offline Mode cannot be used with Mac.

The process of installation and configuration can take from 15 minutes to a few hours. Please set aside enough time to perform these steps with enough time for testing the installation.

Offline Mode cannot be used for an auction company's first sale with Wavebid.

The amount of support Wavebid is able to provide in relation to Offline Mode is very limited. Users should read this guide very thoroughly and ensure they understand the limitations of Offline Mode, and that have a backup plan in place of errors/issues.

It is strongly recommended that Wavebid be used through an internet connection made with a hotspot before Wavebid Offline is considered as an option for conducting a sale. Clerking an auction requires very little bandwidth and usage of a hotspot can suffice to get this done.

Please contact with any additional questions.

The first installation of Offline Mode will need to be performed on a computer with a working internet connection, as it will need to sync with the online databases to obtain company/auction data. If the computer is offline, the installation will be corrupted.

The auction company should setup a local network that will connect their computers together. The easiest way to do so is to use a router that will create the network automatically, then connect the all of the computers to it using Wifi or ethernet cabling.

This network should be setup, configured, and tested before heading to the sale site.

While Wavebid Offline will execute on most computers acting as the server, it does have hardware requirements to ensure proper functionality:

  • CPU: Intel i7 (or AMD equivalent) running above 2GHz
  • RAM: 8 GB
  • Storage: Hard disk drive with 165MB of storage for the installer file, 500MB once it has been installed.

Recommended operating system requirements:

  • CPU: Intel i7 (or AMD equivalent) running above 3GHz
  • RAM: 16 GB or more if possible
  • Storage: Solid state drive with 165MB of storage for the installer file, 500MB once it has been installed.

  • Operating System

Wavebid can function with most versions of Windows (Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 10), but Windows should be updated and tested before heading to the worksite.

  • Java

Wavebid Offline requires Java technology to work. Before starting installation of Java on a Windows system please uninstall any old versions of it by going to the Control Panel and then Programs and Features. Then, download the latest version of Java 8 and install it. This should be done before installing Offline Mode.

  • Web Browser

As with the online version of Wavebid, the latest version of Google Chrome is the recommended browser.

  1. Login to Wavebid.

  2. Navigate to My Links > Offline. The Offline Information page should load.

  3. Choose the appropriate option depending on the operating system:

    • Windows: Select this for all versions of Windows. Wavebid support Windows Vista onwards.

  4. The program will begin to download.
  5. Keep this browser window open. The Offline Key will be needed during installation.

Offline Mode can only be used with Microsoft Windows.

  1. After the wavebid-offline-setup zip file has downloaded, extract it to a location on the computer.

  2. Double-click on the wavebid-offline-setup.exe file. Provide permission for Windows to execute it.

  3. Click Next.

  4. Read and Agree to the Terms and Conditions.

  5. Locate where the file should be installed on the computer and press Next. Proceed with the defaults.

  6. Name the file “Offline” and press Install.

  7. Return to Wavebid and copy the Offline Key, then enter it in the installation window and press Next.

  8. The Finish page should appear. Click the Finish button.

When the installation finishes, a new Wavebid Offline icon will be on the computer desktop. Double click this icon and Offline will begin to run.

Once the application has been installed and opened, Wavebid Offline will start setting up the required database tables and files in order. Depending on the hardware configuration, this process may take anywhere from 15 minutes to 1 hour.

  1. Open Wavebid Offline. The Wavebid Offline splash screen will appear.

  2. At this stage Offline will setup and configure the database. This specific stage will take a while depending on the hardware configuration.

    • Once the configuration is done, a browser screen will open.

  3. Configure the first offline user. This user will have administrative rights over the entire installation.
    • Write this user's information down and to keep it secure. If this data is lost, all sale data within Offline will become inaccessible and cannot be recovered.
    • Do not change any of the Configuration details unless specifically instructed by a Wavebid Administrator.
  4. Once the data has been entered, click Save.

  5. Wavebid Offline is now running. The administrative webpage will show you the current status.

At this stage, the Client computers will now be able to connect to the Server through the link provided in Wavebid Offline Information, and you may proceed to Import your sale into Wavebid Offline

To stop Wavebid Offline from running, you may click on the power icon located on the top right of the screen. The Server software will then stop. To run the software again you can run Wavebid Offline from your desktop or Start Menu. Unless you are shutting the Server computer off, please leave it running.

To prevent any issues during you sale, please do not use the Server computer for anything other than running Wavebid Offline as it might interfere with the proper operation of the software.

Please make sure to have an alternate method of Clerking your sale if need be, such as a spreadsheet or just pen and paper. Although we do try our best to have this software function as expected, we cannot guarantee the integrity of the data before it has been imported into our servers.
